The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program places Fulbrighters in higher education institutions in Ecuador, with the purpose of assisting local English teachers. ETAs help teach the English language while serving as cultural ambassadors of the U.S.
ETAs perform activities related to teaching English for up to 25 hours per week: 20 classroom hours with students and 5 hours for class planning. During the 9-month grant, ETAs meet, collaborate, and learn from their Ecuadorian counterparts while sharing their experiences and becoming part of a community.

What are the placements available in Ecuador?
All placements will be at universities. ETAs will help either at the language center that provides English courses for the whole institution or at universities that train future English teachers.
Do I need a visa for my grant?
Yes, you need a visa to stay in Ecuador for 9 months. You will need a visa de residencia temporal – voluntario. This visa requires that you obtain various documents and have those apostilled. Instructions about the visa process will be shared with selected candidates.
How does the Commission select grantees?
The Fulbright Commission in Ecuador is looking for candidates who want to generate an impact in Ecuador. Our Academic Committee reviews all applications and determines which candidates will be selected as grantees. The committee is interested in applicants who demonstrate commitment to engaging with their host community, who have clear objectives in their statement of grant purpose, and who show flexibility for their supplementary project. The Academic Committee promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in review of all applications.
When does my grant start?
